Reflection Paper Multicultural Counseling And Psychology

Getting my new text and being filled with curiosity is always a great feeling prior to starting a class; Cultural Anthropology, such a foreign topic, so I thought. Once I began to read the first few chapters of the book I began to recognize words and details that I have previously been introduced too. Thinking back to when and what classes I have had the same experience, I recall Multicultural Counseling and Psychology. Stepping out my comfort zone is what really came to mind. Growing up in a society that has changed so much over the years you would think that I would be used to it; however, asking to look at your community with a different set of eyes is uncomfortable and brings feelings of disbelief most of the time. During my multicultural class my instructor asked us to explain what culture we were a part of. I thought long and hard on the topic, and identified that I was a Caucasian female, with English and German heritage. Needless to say, I was way off base. She wa sn’t asking me to share my heritage, she wanted to know about my culture; what shared values did I have with people of my culture, what was my perception of the world in comparison to others of my culture. How did my culture change over time and through generations? These were the types of questions she wanted answers. I had a lot to learn. The News of Outremont Dog Park-Free-Samples-Myassignmenthelp.com

Question: Reading an article from a national newspaper published within the last four months that deals with an ethical issue. Your task is to explain why it is an ethical issue using material from the course. Answer: The article reveals the news of Outremont Dog Park which is one of the biggest parks in Montreal. People come in the park from far away to enjoy with the dogs in the park. However, it is reported on 14 of February that the park will be closed within 10 years because the land is taken up by the new Condos and the University of Montreal. It is planned to build new campus for the university and residences. Regarding this matter the daily visitors of the park got a chance to meet the city officials to discuss the future of the park. There the officials handed out the diagram of the plan of the condos and the new road construction which will replace the park and with only a small green space left for the park. This was not accepted by the visitors of the park. The mayor of Outremont assured people that he will try to replace the dog park to a new place. The visitors of the park decided to protest against the decision of the development plan. Some visitors even chose to sit in front of the tractors of the construction site along with their families. Later, it was also found that the decision of the development plan was made 12 years ago which was later known in an interview after the meeting. The visitors of the park stuck to the point that they will fight to keep their dogs park. The Outremont dog park is the only one of Montreals largest dog park, where people come to visit with their dog to play around, exercise and socialize. The site is now belonging to the University of Montreal where it is planned to build new residences and part of campus. However, a park where dogs without a leash have fun, exercise and socialize with other dogs and their owners as well. It creates a negative impact over the dogs, who would not find place to play except this park. A site for development of campus is easily available but to replace a park where the dogs have fun is not appreciated. To certain visitors it could also create a hurdle to visit the new park which might be far away from their residences. The development of a new park or the new campus plan will definitely take a long period of time to construct till then where the dogs will play or socialize, the officials should understand that as people have the right to play and have fun it is same for the animals too. In the present world, the spaces are mostly occupied by residences, office building while the greenery is being vanished. Hence, it is not a right decision of the demolition of the park because it will lead to the abolition of nature and a place for the animals to gather and socialize. Reference Spector, D. Rumative Coping Strategies essays

Rumative Coping Strategies essays The journal review I chose to do was Early adolescent gender differences in the use of ruminative and distracting coping strategies by Patricia C. Broderick. Her hypothesis was that rumination is manifested to a greater extent by girls than by boys prior to the onset of adolescence. The independent variable in this study is the fourth and fifth grade boys and girls, meaning their actual gender is the independent variable. The dependent variable is the survey of two vignette scenarios for three different categories, being school, family, and peer groups, totaling six scenarios. The sample was four groups of fourth and fifth graders each group consisted of a different school. Research has shown that women experience more depressive moods than men. This depressive moods and disorders can be experienced from adolescence all the way to adulthood. The most common ages for depression to appear are between thirteen and eighteen. The reason for this test is to clarify why depression occurs during adolescence because it is not understood what would cause this to happen. However it is known that early events in a persons life can lead to depression at a later time. The survey or test that was given tested for the different coping strategies used by these adolescents. The two main strategies looked for during this test were Rumination and Distraction. Rumination is, according to the document written by Broderick, a stable, emotional-focused coping style conceived as a pattern of behaviors and thoughts that focus the individuals attention on his or her emotional state and inhibit any actions that might distract the individual from his or her mood. Broderick defines distraction as, behaviors or thoughts that take the persons mind off the problem and lessen the impact of negative mood on information processing and memory. The survey was given to the sample of children as...

Recommendation proposal Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words - 1

Recommendation proposal - Essay Example In this report, I give an explanation on better solution identified by the state welfare committee and present our findings after comparison of substance abuse mental disorder cases in the state. Together with the social welfare committee, we have considered the following solutions: There has been a big increase of substance mental disorder cases over the past couple of years. Excessive drinking of alcohol has been one of the major causes. This increase is attributed to ignorance, violation of rules controlling sale and drinking of alcohol not having effective public sensitization programs on dangers of abusing alcohol and lineament punishment to the offenders. The enforcement of laws that govern alcohol sale and consumption is a major step. This can de enhanced by employing more policemen and giving them relevant patrol facilities. This will deter the law breakers from going against the regulations that control alcohol sale and consumption. More social workers should be employed and trained to educate the public on the dangers of excessive alcohol consumption. In addition, the social worker should be empowered and facilitated by more training and finances to educate the public. Further, the social workers should innovate more ways to educate and create more forums to sensitize the public. There are bar attendants selling alcohol to patrons which are already drunk to maximize the profit. In addition, others extend the time limits contributing to an increase in excessive alcohol consumption. Laws should be enacted to give stiff penalties to these offenders to deter them violating the law. For the first offenders, the fines should be more and the second offenders’ licenses should be suspended and the offenders jailed. The fines for patron who engage in binge drinking should be more and repeat offenders should be taken to rehabilitation centers. There were 1040 cases of substance abuse mental disorder in 2012.
